Description
SquareTrade © AP6.0 ORIGINAL VINTAGE FILLMORE EAST POSTER FE-10 for The Who's 1969 New York debut for TOMMY.  I have been on Ebay for years, and some of you might be wondering, why and how I can keep selling the same rare posters for so little for so long. Prospective bidders consistently ask about authenticity, and how I can be sure, and I don't blame them. So I decided to set the record straight at this time. I've been a Movie and Rock poster collector since the 1980's and I have a large collection / accumulation of posters.  I was fortunate enough to have found, and buy out a couple of juicy poster stashes back in the early '90's.  In doing so, I obtained some multiple examples of now rare posters. In 1991 I stumbled upon a store in NYC that sold NYC Broadway Theatre posters, but also had a fantastic Rock poster stash. This store was Triton Gallery.   Triton never really went out of it's way to market these Rock posters. They were, and still are, primarily a Broadway Theatre Poster store. That was the beginning of a 5 year quest to relieve them of this dusty untapped goldmine. In the course of these years, I became acquainted with the owner, and learned of his affiliation with David Byrd. It seems that back in the 1960's and '70's, David and Roger were partners in a number of ventures. One of these was David's poster for The Who's TOMMY, at the Fillmore East. ( One of many Fillmore East posters he did). Triton was the distributor and I found Roger sitting on a semi-large stash of FE-10 posters in NM condition. Over the course of time I tried to acquire as many of them as possible, 5 to 10 posters at a time, depending on my financial condition.  I also found he had acquired numerous other rock posters. The 1972 Rolling Stones American Tour posters, that were left over, so I was told, from the merchandising venders for the Stones show at Madison Square Garden. The 1971  Stones European Tour, Who 1976 World Tour, as well as many others, that I did my best to get my hands on.   In 1996, Roger was interviewed for an article about the 25th anniversary of Woodstock, and Byrd's original poster for this event. (ART OF ROCK page 257, plate 3.2) "An Aquarian Exposition" at Wallkill, N. Y. When the event was moved at the last minute to White Lake, a new poster was needed and Arnold Skolnick created the iconic image that we all know today. (A.O.R. plate 3.1)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Unfortunately for me, Roger became enlightened and that was the end of my source. Unfortunately for all rock collectors, Triton moved to smaller quarters and sold off all of its stock, except for their amazing inventory of Broadway posters.   Roger and Triton Gallery can be found on the web at http://tritongallery.com/ . (Thanks Roger, I owed you one)          I've been selling  and trading these posters ever since. I still have some items left, in a variety of dwindling quantities.
