Melody Maker, published in the UK, was (until its closure in 2000) the world’s oldest weekly music newspaper. Founded in 1926, it was initially aimed at musicians, soon developing a focus on jazz. In the ‘50s it was a bit slow to cover rock and roll, starting the ‘60s in black and white and soon exploding into technicolour. NME, like its homegrown rival, Melody Maker covered rock music in a quick-hitting style emphasizing the ‘pop’ in popular music. These non-glossy newspaper style British magazines are jam-packed with the ‘latest’ news, interviews, behind-the-scenes articles, album/single and concert reviews, charts, classified ads, lots of great pictures and more.
