Description
Exquisite partial garment that is one of two pieces worn by Mr. Quinn in the 1968 film, "SHOES OF THE FISHERMAN". I was informed that Mr. Quinn owned the other piece of the garment. This one was held by MGM Studios for retakes. The certificate of authenticity on back of the frame with glass, reads,"This is a remnant of the Robe worn By Anthony Quinn in his portrayal Of Kiril Lakota, the 1st Russian Pope. The robe was made from a set of Drapes Donated to the studio wardrobe dept. They originally hung in the Vatican in Rome. They were donated by the Pope especially for the use in this film.(see photo of certificate). This is a a fantastic example of religious elaborate needlework from Catholic Vatican history, as well as a fine piece of movie memorabilia. The age of this piece is unknown, but was donated by Pope Paul VI, in the '60s. Fabric size is 16"X26". It sold at auction for $650. From the weight and shimmering appearance, I think gold thread was used in the construction.
