Forrest investigates the case of Prentiss Carver, a black man accused of assaulting a white police officer. “RULES OF THE GAME” With Forrest away on a weekend hunting trip with dark political overtones, womanhood takes aim at Francie. "AMAZING GRACE" Lilly takes her first steps into the Civil Rights movement when she attends a voting-rights meeting. Her possession of a voting-rights pamphlet causes some trouble for her and her friends. Francie reads Lilly's journal. Forrest agrees to run for Attorney General, but only on his terms. "ALL GOD'S CHILDREN" Forrest meets his campaign manager, who has some hard questions for him. John-Morgan does not understand why he's not being invited to Lilly's 30th birthday party. Friction develops on the wrestling ream when Coach brings in a black student. Collection #2. MORE SEASON ONE. "BEYOND HERE THERE BE DRAGONS" As Halloween rolls around, the ghost of the Ku Klux Klan rears its head as Christina begins to investigate Prentiss Carver's murder. “PARALLEL LIVES” Slocum wrestles with his conscience and with Evans (the new black student) as the Coach applies pressure over the brick-throwing incident. “COMING HOME” Thanksgiving brings family – and conflict – home. Gwen’s visit from the mental hospital knocks the stuffing out of the Bedfords. “SOME DESPERATE GLORY” A game of chicken turns deadly for Nathan and Slocum. “DESIRE” Forrest’s arrest of an upstanding citizen in the McDaniel murder adds fuel to the fire against him. Sparks fly between Nathan and a carnival worker. Collection #3. MORE SEASON ONE. “ALICE OAKLEY DOESN’T LIVE HERE ANYMORE” Forrest lassos a witness and then tightens the rope; Slocum’s father kicks him out of the house. “ON THE ROAD” On a campaign swing, Forrest lobbies for the affections of a difficult Francine, while Lilly faces a difficult test registering to vote. "MASTER MAGICIAN" Lilly faces opposition to her decision to vote, including pressure from her minister. Election night holds many surprises for Forrest, especially when he discovers that Lake has undertaken dark actions on his behalf. "HARD LESSONS" Forrest and his family are threatened by townspeople angry about his Civil Rights stance. Lilly hires a nanny for Adlaine so that she can attend night school. Nathan tries to find out what happened between Lake and Forrest. (Note: The scene of Forrest outside the Ace Garage is one of the most memorable, and chilling, in the entire series.) "COOL WINTER BLUES" Lilly faces discipline problems with John-Morgan. Nathan takes heat when its revealed that his new girlfriend is Jewish. Rev. Henry leads a lunch counter protest that turns ugly, and leads him into another conflict with Forrest. "THE WAY THINGS ARE" Forrest prosecutes Rev. Henry, causing Lilly to take part in the pickets outside the department store. Nathan continues to take heat over his relationship with Diane, this time from her parents. Collection #4. END OF SEASON ONE. “SLOW DARK COMING” Racial tensions heat up with the department store boycott, leaving Lilly’s cousin Oscar out in the cold. "TOY SOLDIERS" Francie carelessly terrorizes John-Morgan with a childish prank. Tucker carries on an affair with a young campaign worker. Lilly and Forrest both witness a shocking police attack on some black children. Rev. Henry invites Forrest to attend a meeting at his church. "THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS" Coach turns up working at a local garage, while fighting to get his job back. Forrest attempts to replace his opposing council in a murder trial, when he judges the man incompetent. Lilly becomes involved with Clarence, a touring R&B sax player. "NOT BURIED" Forrest asks Christina to replace the incompetent opposing council. John-Morgan believes himself responsible for the death of a neighbor. "A DANGEROUS COMFORT" Lewis returns from New Jersey and does not approve of Lilly's relationship with Clarence. Christina tries to help Tucker after he goes on an alcholic bender. "THE SLIGHTEST DISTANCE" The season finale! Lilly's relationship with Clarence continues to be a source of friction at the Harper home. The Coach returns to the school. Forrest receives an offer to become Attorney General for the country. Nathan discovers the truth about Forrest and Christina. Collection #5. START OF SEASON TWO. "HELLO AND GOODBYE" Second season premiere! "RULER OF MY HEART" Lilly is questioned by the F.B.I. as part of their investigation into Forrest in his bid for Attorney General. Forrest is less than happy when he hears that Gwen may soon be released from the hospital. Francie stresses out over a party. This episode includes the murder of Col. Landers, a black Air Force officer. This case will dominate the season. We also meet, for the first time, Kyle Cooper, Gil Plaquemine and Jere Blount, the killers. "ALL IN THE LIFE" Gwen is conveniently killed in an automobile accident before being released. The Col. Landers murderers are allowed to go free. Forrest becomes Attorney General. "UNTIL TOMORROW" Francie loses it at Gwen's wake, while John-Morgan acts like a brat. Paul Slocum approaches Evans about getting an abortion. Lake tries to reconcile with Forrest. Parkie tells her schoolmates that Paul has agreed to marry her. "DESPERATE MEASURES" Rev. Henry pressures Forrest to get involved in the Col. Landers case. Paul agrees to marry Parkie. Collection #6. MORE SEASON TWO. "FREEDOM BUS" A young white college student, one of the Freedom Riders, visits the Harpers, leading to some surprising revelations for both of them. Forrest meets Christina in Washington, D.C.. Nathan takes his driving test. Forrest buys him a car, unaware that he has already purchased a motorcycle. “EIGHTEEN” Slocum decides to marry Parkie, but not before he and Nathan make a trip to a brothel. Forrest persuades a young man to infiltrate the KKK. "FRAGILE TRUTHS" Christina's mother leans on her about her relationship with Forrest. Parkie accuses Paul Slocum of rape. Oscar alienates Lilly by bragging about his job at an exclusive country club. Christina agrees to be Paul's attorney. “SINCE WALTER” Frankie gets deeper into the KKK and finds out that there was a third man involved in the killing of Col. Sanders. Lilly’s ex-husband comes to town. “THE THIRD MAN” Slocum’s trial winds to a close, but not before the Coach takes the stand. "COMFORT AND JOY" Lilly is not in the holiday spirit after her beating from a protester. A Christmas dinner at Christina's home turns into a disaster for the Bedfords. Paul spends Christmas with Coach and his army buddies. Collection #7. THE END OF SEASON TWO. "REALPOLITIK" Jere Blount testifies before a grand jury. Lilly leads a boycott against a local grocer. Forrest is pressured to drop the Landers case. "SMALL WISHES" While riding Claudia home on his bike, Nathan is busted on a trumped-up narcotics charge. The Landers trial comes to a dramatic end. Rumors about Nathan and Claudia fly all over school. The Landers case brings Forrest national attention. “WHAT’S IN A NAME?” Forrest finds himself being tailed by mysterious cars and his phone tapped. Lilly tries to get an elderly neighbor to register to vote. Nathan is harassed by schoolmates, and Claudia tells him to stay away. "COMMENCEMENT” Forrest angrily confronts Monty about the tail. Forrest tells Christina that he’s being watched. Lilly tries to study for her finals. Claudia and some friends stage a sit-in at the school gym. Forrest meets with Tucker in Washington DC, and learns some disturbing things about the tail. Lilly graduates. “STATE” Joe gives up his railroad job to teach at the community school for the expelled students. Nathan has a disastrous interview with the dean of admissions of Forrest’s alma mater. This was the final regular episode of the series. The final scene of this final episode is especially memorable. As Joe leads the students in the Pledge of Allegiance, we cross-cut to scenes of the National Guard leading black students into the university, while Forrest and Nathan look on. Collection #8. FINAL MOVIE. This is the final movie made after the network series was cancelled, so PBS -- the hallmark of television quality -- allowed the creators and cast a final opportunity to end this marvelous series with drama and grace. The powerful, unforgettable conclusion will amaze you. Plus, there’s a time-jump for these characters to the 1980s as well. What happened to Forrest and his family over the years? Not what you expect. Fair warning: there was some dark tragedy. And just wait till you see what Lilly Harper is doing in the 1980s!
