It doesn't matter whether they're children or grandpas, homo sapiens is not portrayed in a flattering light. Dogs, often considered amongst the most convivial members of the animal kingdom, are singled out for especial horrors. In Sroka's grotesque galaxy, dogs are depicted either eating each other or chomping on some absent-minded child. Sroka's humour is a winning factor, but he won't be everyone's cup of tea. Jacek Sroka has won plenty of fans beyond Poland's borders. His works have found homes at many hallowed institutions, including the British Museum, Vienna's Albertina, The Met in New York and the Biblioteque Nationale, Paris.                          Exhibition at the Graphic Art and Poster Gallery “Pretty Ugly”   Jacek Sroka's art isn't pretty. But being pretty isn't what it's all about. Like the German expressionists from whom he apparently draws his inspiration, Sroka seems intent on showing the shallowness, aggression and ugliness of people. The figures which populate his paintings and etchings are deformed, with all their negative characteristics in plain view. They fight and indulge in strange fetishes, and Sroka captures them at their lowest. Despite this, the work is approachable and, in a strange way, very attractive. His colors are bold, as is his use of lines and shapes. Most of his forms are geometrically stylized. Lively, rough lines keep things dynamic. The multi-colored etchings show a technical prowess that makes this violent and dreary view of human nature not only bearable, but fascinating.       See above for other Slovak, Polish and Czech artists (View seller's other items)     Sale conditions: International Bank or Postal Money Order, Paypal   Überweisung auf Konto in Deutschland auch möglich   Ich mache Käufer in Europa darauf aufmerksam, dass Sie für Artikel aus Nordamerika kein Steuer bezahlen.    Shipping by courier or priority post  (included in price)
