WICKED (The Musical)PLAYBILL - GERSHWIN THEATRENews Article taken from Playbill news dated; Thursday, March 9, 2006.David Garrison and Jenna Leigh Green will soon join the Broadway company of Wicked as, respectively, the Wizard and Nessarose. Green, who will be making her Broadway debut, will join the hit musical March 17, 2006, while Garrison will begin his Wicked stint April 4, 2006. Both actors originated their roles in the national tour of the Stephen Schwartz musical. The Broadway company of Wicked currently features Eden Espinosa (Elphaba), Megan Hilty (Glinda), Ben Vereen (the Wizard), Carol Kane (Madame Morrible), Derrick Williams (Fiyero), Cristy Candler (Nessarose), Sean McCourt (Dr. Dillamond) and Robb Sapp (Boq). David Garrison was most recently on Broadway in the short-lived revival of Bells Are Ringing. He received a Tony nomination for his role in A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine, and his other theatrical credits include Titanic, The Pirates of Penzance, Torch Song Trilogy, I Do! I Do!, Randy Newman's Faust, Merrily We Roll Along and You Never Know. His television credits are numerous and include "Murphy Brown," "Murder, She Wrote," "Married with Children," "L.A. Based on Gregory Maguire's novel, which turned every Oz myth inside out, Wicked explores the early life of the witches of Oz: Glinda and Elphaba. The two main characters meet at Shiz, a school where both hope to take up sorcery. Glinda is madly popular and Elphaba is, well, green. By a misunderstanding, they wind up roommates and, after an initial period of mutual loathing, begin to learn something about each other. Their life paths continue to intersect through a shared love, entry into the Emerald City and interaction with the Wizard himself. Eventually, their choices and convictions take them on widely different paths. Wicked, with a book by Winnie Holzman, began previews on Broadway Oct. 8, 2003, with an official opening Oct. 30, 2003. The Broadway company - directed by Joe Mantello - continues to play the Gershwin Theatre.  The Gershwin Theatre is located at 222 West 51st Street, between Eighth Avenue and Broadway.
