Cover shows Christine Mannon (Marie Collier) and her daughter, Lavinia Mannon (Evelyn Lear). Ms. Lear autographed this cover (although the signature is next to Collier's face) The “FZ” Collection consists of opera memorabilia gathered by one of my closest friends over almost 50 years of opera-going. We met at Korvette’s in 1963 at one of the Monday/Tuesday Opera LP sales they used to have and have been friends ever since. “FZ” (not the real initials) frequented stage doors, dressing rooms, Lincoln Center auctions and other venues (as well as using, successfully, mail to artists requesting signing) to achieve a collection the scope of which (when I finally began going through his files with him) surprised even me. He has decided to begin the process of divesting himself of this collection and has asked me to begin selling it for him. The current selection is the beginning of what’s going to be a long journey for him and for me as we go over many of our good (and, of course, not so good) opera times together. With the exception of those signed photos purchased at venues like the Met Shop, “FZ” almost always wrote signing dates and venues on the back of the photos. Signed programs and program inserts tend to have been signed the day of the performance unless noted otherwise. All items will come in a mylar sleeve or wrapper along with a Certificate of Authenticity and a statement of provenance, including the real name of the collector.
