Description
Up for auction is an incredible piece of early Beatles history - John Lennon's leather jacket from the 1950's!! This leather jacket was owned and worn by Lennon when he was a teenager in Liverpool. At one point it was probably one of his most prized possessions. The Story......When Yoko was getting ready to release an album back in the early 1970’s, Lennon contacted Joe Franklin to try to get her on his talk show so she could promote her album. If you google Joe Franklin you will see that he is a famous talk show host in the New York area who had a show for many, many years. In return for allowing Yoko on the show Lennon agreed to make two appearances, which he did in 1977 and 1978. Franklin’s show attracted many celebrities and he started a collection know as the Memory Lane Collection which consisted of momentos/artifacts given to him by the stars. To show his appreciation, Lennon added this jacket to the collection after one of his appearances. A letter written from Lennon to Franklin regarding Yoko’s appearance sold at RR auctions in 2006 for over 20 grand. http://scoop.diamondgalleries.com/public/default.asp?t=1&m=1&c=34&s=262&ai=54120&ssd=9/30/2006&arch=y The jacket is made of horsehide leather. The inner tag collar reads "GENUINE FRONT QUARTER HORSEHIDE LEATHER". Inside the left pocket when I obtained it was 3 buttons, a small metal object, and a 1961 penny. These items have remained in the pockets since it was obtained in 1977. I have no idea if the penny has any meaning but whoever wins the jacket will receive everything. The jacket will come with the full original authentication package that I received. Included is a page that describes the history of the jacket and how it was obtained along with Mr. Franklin's original signature and date. I have listed it as an attachment so that you can view it. I scanned the original document and typed, "FOR EBAY PURPOSES ONLY" over the top and bottom where the signature is so that it cannot be copied. The original signature page will have original bleed through on the back so that you know that you have the only copy that was made for this jacket. You will also receive the biography pages for Mr. Franklin in the authentication package. I obtained this jacket from the guy who got it from Joe Franklin. He was a high end collector who also bought from Joe’s collection Jerry Garcia’s banjo from the 60’s that he is seen playing in that famous photo of him in front of the American flag. This collector sold off some of his items to obtain funds to buy a guitar that had been played during the Abbey Road sessions. This jacket is guaranteed to be authentic. For payment on this item I will only accept a money order or cashiers check and shipping and insurance will be included free of charge.
