Description
Framed Matted Concert Poster The Who - Blood, Sweat & TearsRhode Island 1968 Performers:   The Who   Blood, Sweat & Tears Venue:   Rhode Island Auditorium   Providence, RI Date:   Thurs., July 18, 1968 This show was part of The Who's 1968 Summer Tour of North America that ran from June until August. They had released their third album "The Who Sell Out" in late 1967. The band was opening their shows with the one-two punch of "I Can't Explain" followed by "Substitute". The sets also included "Summertime Blues", "Happy Jack", "I Can See For Miles" and "Magic Bus" before ending with an explosive "My Generation". Rhode Island Auditorium was built in 1925 and opened for business in February, 1926. An overflow crowd of 6,000 spectators jammed the new building to enjoy an ice skating show. Home from it's inception until 1972 to hockey's Providence Reds. Over the years thousands of fans flocked there for hockey, basketball, boxing and shows of ever description. It was torn down in 1989 after spending it's final years as a strip club. NOTE: Legend has it that Paul McCartney wrote "Helter Skelter" after reading a review of "I Can See for Miles" wherein the writer of the review claimed that it was the heaviest song he'd ever heard. McCartney, who had not actually heard the song, wrote "Helter Skelter" in an attempt to make an even heavier song than "I Can See for Miles".
