I have been contacted by the original owner's Son and Granddaughter and they have passed along this info to me. I very much appreciate it. Robert Curran and Harold Braucht rented a little space at the Oklahoma Publishing Co in the corner of a room in 1933 with one roller press. Robert was in charge of the art & production, and Harold was the sales and promotion guy. The early posters had the art drawn on wood, for each color and the wood carved away to elevate the printing surface. They then used block letter type faces to complete the layout. As the business grew they moved into a couple of locations on their own, and purchased more presses from a firm in Chicago. Those huge presses were so loud, almost all of the printers had hearing problems later in life. They were early users of lithography printing, making their own plates and photographic work. They pretty much stayed with entertainment printing. Circuses, and Amusement attractions. They did print a world war 2 bond poster, with the Minute Man and the Pioneer Woman statue on it. One may still be hanging in the state capital. They did snipe printing for the Clyde Beatty Circus, and Barnum & Bailey Circus. To save the cost of shipping paper, sent the plates to a little shop they established in Lodi Ca. During WW2, they enticed one of the Carnivals to set up in downtown Okla. City near the Civic Center to entertain the military men stations at Will Rogers, and Navy men from Norman. Later they booked Broadway show touring company's in Okla. City, bought a movie theatre COLORCRAFT POSTER COMPANY WAS THE PRINTING COMPANY OPENED IN 1933 THAT PRINTED SOME OF THE MOST SOUGHT AFTER COLLECTABLE POSTERS. Thibodeaux played guitar from age six and fiddle from age twelve. He played in local dance halls at 13, and joined Julius Lamperez's Cajun band in 1949. He worked extensively as a studio musician for Jay Miller's Crowley Studio, working with The Clement Brothers among others. In 1952 he met Jimmy C. Newman, a frequent Grand Ole Opry performer; this began a long association between the two, including on Newman's first hit, "Cry Cry Darling". Alongside his time with Newman, Thibodeaux played in the studios behind Lefty Frizzell, George Jones, Jim Reeves, Slim Harpo, Carol Channing, Neil Young, and many others. His 1970 recording with Newman of the song "Lache Pas la Patate" was the first song sung in Cajun French ever to reach Gold status. In 1987, he released a solo album, The Cajun Country Fiddle of Rufus Thibodeaux. Thibodeaux's later years were plagued by diabetes, which resulted in his leg being amputated in 1999. He nevertheless continued recording almost up until the time of his death in 2005. .JIMMY C. NEWMAN As a child, he listened more to Gene Autry than to the Cajun music of the area but had a number of Cajun songs in his repertoire when, as a teenager, he joined Chuck Guillorry’s Rhythm Boys. He recorded a few unsuccessful sides for J.D. Miller’s Future label in the 1940s but Miller persuaded Fred Rose in Nashville, Tennessee to give the young singer a shot. In 1953, he was signed to the Dot Records label and the following year recorded "Cry, Cry Darling" which reached Number 4 on the country chart. His recording success led the Louisiana Hayride, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to hire him as a regular performer. His next four records all reached Top 10 status, and in 1956 he was invited to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry. That following year he released his biggest hit, "A Fallen Star", which spent two weeks at Number 2 and also entered the Top 25 of the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart. Now that he was an established artist, he began to integrate his Cajun influences into his music and recorded "Alligator Man", which was a Top 25 record and continues to be his theme song at the Opry. In 1963, he released another Top 10 Hit, "The D.J. Cried". His final hits came in 1965 and 1966 with "Artificial Rose" and "Back Pocket Money". When his commercial popularity declined he returned to Cajun music, forming his “Cajun Country” band and taking the high energy fiddle and accordion based music of his native Louisiana to fans around the world. In 1976, his recording of the Cajun French song, "Lâche pas la patate" ("The Potato Song") earned gold record status in Canada. In 1991, Newman and Cajun Country earned a Grammy nomination for their album, Alligator Man. The 21st century has continued to bring honors. In 2000, he was inducted into the North American Country Music Association’s International Hall of Fame and in 2004 was inducted into the Cajun Hall of Fame. He is also honored in the Cajun Music Hall of Fame in Lafayette, Louisiana. Newman and his wife, made their home on their 670-acre (2.7 km²) ranch outside of Nashville. He continues to tour and appears regularly at the Grand Ole Opry. In 2006, he joined a select group of entertainers who have celebrated 50 years of Opry membership. Gas prices getting you down?
