Description
This is a 1/4" reel to reel tape recorded at A & M Studios in Hollywood April 9, 1979 that features the very first recorded demo of The Boomtown Rats worldwide #1 hit "I Don't Like Mondays". With lead vocals by Boomtown Rats frontman Bob Geldof, piano accompaniment by keyboardist Johnny Fingers and group vocal harmonies by fellow Rats Simon Crowe, Gerry Cott, and Pete Briquette, the group were in the studio ostensibly to record a series of radio spots for their US label Columbia Records to promote their recently released album "A Tonic for the Troops"..., and at the end of the session, Bob Geldof suggested with the remaining studio time they demo up a new song he had written to commemorate a school shooting of Brenda Spencer, who had famously justified her shooting spree by explaining, "I Don't Like Mondays". Their are several takes of this future #1 song on the tape, plus several comic skits featuring the Rats that were later edited in NYC for use as promo radio spots to plug their latest album. This is the original un-edited 2 track master tape, there are no other existing copies. A CD transfer of the tape will be included. Buyer pays shipping and all Pay Pal Fees. Shipping Fee listed is estimated (NY to Los Angeles) un-insured. Tape is in great shape, and buyer agrees to accept tape "as is". This tape is almost 30 years old, so for multiple plays, please consider taking tape to a "tape baking" facility. Tape ships in anti-static bag. edited clips from tape available upon request.
