Description
You are bidding on one(1) original 1986 poster that promoted the infamous "Outlaw Comics Get Religion" comedy show of April 18th at the State Theatre in downtown Austin, Texas. It's printed (offset) brown and black ink on tan card-stock paper, and measures 11 inches by 17 inches. "Cutting Edge" is a term that's been used to death. But there was a time when it actually meant something. The Outlaw Comics pictured (photos) are: John Farnetti, Riley Barber, Steve Epstein, Bill Hicks (front and center), Ron Shock, and Andy Huggins, all riding on horseback. Below the venue information it states: "With Special Guests: Craig Wassen & Stephen Doster from Body Double." I was there during the Austin comedy scene in the early/mid '80's and was lucky enough to work with these guys as a member of the Austin Comedy Workshop's Improv Troupe. Bill and the rest would come through now and again, making trouble and making memories. I still remember Bill encouraging me to take chances when I first started doing solo stand-up. Anyway, this poster is the real deal. Not many were even made, let alone preserved. This is one of a very few I got from a mutual acquaintance a year or so after the show. It's been in my archives ever since. Genuine, original Bill Hicks memorabilia is practically non-existent. This is a very special exception. Of the very few I acquired, the ones I sold went for upwards of $200.00. But I'm starting the opening bid at only $169.95. Condition- Excellent! There is the very slightest evidence of gentle admiring, and you really have to look for it to see it. Once you frame it under glass, it'll disappear. My stamp is on the back: "From the Collection of Samuel T. Schott." (I'm a noted collector of concert music poster art. For example, I provided the poster art for the Stevie Ray Vaughan biography "Soul To Soul" by Keri Leigh. Page 150- the last SRV Austin concert- Rites of Spring at Auditorium Shores) The stamp provides proof of provenance for the collector. It has no effect or appearance on the front of the poster.
