They played in the Blaisdell Concert Hall on Nov. 1, 2005. Each of the girls are pictured with their instruments. Wang Xiao-Jing the "father of Chinese rock music" decided he wanted to create a woman ensemble and he knew he needed 12 members. Per Chinese mythology it is the twelve jinchai (12hairpins) representing womanhood.On June 18, 2001 the Twelve Girls Band was formed. The group uses traditional Chinese instruments to play both traditional Chinese and Western songs.  Each woman is classically trained, and each coming from various conservatoires in the People's Republic of China. They have become popular throughout parts of the world and very popular in Hong Kong where they have had the highest sales numbers of any Chinese musical artist.  All 12 girls reside in Hong Kong.
