Description
MADE IN USA SERIAL: 591XXX You are bidding on a vintage 1974 Fender Precision Bass in very cool and rare original Transparent finish over an ash body! A great players bass with all of the original pots, tuners, body/finish, neck/finish, neckplate, knobs, covers etc. No routes or refinishing of any kind All electrics are 100% original and working. Original Neck code – 0103 XXXX is consistence with a late ’73 onwards production date although Pots date 74 in line with the guitars serial number making it earlier than August ’74 but later than September ‘73. Either way 73 or 74 this bass is a great playing and sounding bass, full fat warm round bottom end tone with a terrific maple neck and fretboard that will still last for years. Pick it up, play and watch your investment grow at the same time. Pro set-up is being done this very day confirming everything 100% with instructions that it must be A1 – fix anything if it needs doing. WEIGHT: approximately 4.0Kgs (9 lbs) There is always a Story: This bass was my work horse for many years, and whilst I am somewhat distraught about selling it, it has sat in its case under the bed for way too long. This Bass needs playing as it still has “the sound”- you Bass players know exactly what I mean and I don't know how else to describe it but to say that this is a true Leo Fender design classic. It sounds like only 34 year old wood can – better than new. I got it 31 years ago from its original owner who was a professional studio session muso clearing most of his collection as he had retired. Sounds whacky now but here I am doing the same. I had been so used to an English Burns bass and this felt so right the minute I touched it, that I bought it without even trying it through an amp. When I got home and plugged it into my Burns Bison bass amp (only 35w in those days) for the first time, I was blown away, almost literally, such is that wonderful round low end thump that only a Precision Bass can seem to give you. This is a great bass for just about anything - rock, amazing for blues, and it can be sweet for jazz and country. Although it never really did much work, certainly for the last 31 years, it does have body wear as you can see, but its honest 34 years old wear not abuse. Any old instrument of this age that is mint must have sounded real bad for someone not to have played it and playing and moving around causes accidents. The pickups, like everything on the bass, are original. and sound fantastic. The Neck is nice and straight, frets really good and the action can get pretty low if you like. Original volume and tone knobs, covers and hard-case are included and original also. There is some slight checking on the back but nothing that affects the guitar and is less than would be expected for this age. I’ve seen good examples like this selling in Sydney shops recently for around $10,000 so this must be a gift starting at less than half that price – My money back warranty as to this being genuine, is as good as theirs, see my 100% positive feedback - Good luck it needs a good playing home but ask questions please if you need to. Revision after listing: The guitar has been returned from the Pro set-up and regrettably the technician took me at my word to fix anything needed and decided that the pots could use a change. Whilst the original 74 pots are retained in case a buyer wishes to replace them, he has fitted new genuine Fender Solid Shaft units. Now I do not know why this was needed as they seemed fine to me – they can be put back though.
