ORIGINAL signed performance CONTRACT for Horace Silver (Quintet) Hand-Signed by Horace Silver (and Art D'Lugoff for the Village Gate) This was the Quintet with players listed on back: Horace Silver, Gene Taylor, Roy Brooks, Juior Herman Cook, Richard (Blue) Mitchell, and John Harris, Jr. Dated April 17, 1961This contract was between Art D'Lugoff for THE VILLAGE GATE and Horace Silver Contract covered two weekends of May 12-13 and May 19-20, 1961 Silver was to be paid $650 per weekend Cpntract has an edge tear and a couple of hard creases etc. This is the LAST Horace Silver Contract we have from the Village Gate archives! Artist rider, affixed by stapled to contract as seen below, reads: "The employer agrees to have a grand piano in first class condition and tuned to 440 pitch and completely satisfactory to the artist and the artist shall be the sole jugde of the condition of the piano. If the condition is such that the artist does not feel it is commensurate withi his requirements, then he shall not be forced to use the piano and the employer agrees to obtain another piano satisfactory to the artist or the contract is invalid."From the archives of the Village Gate in NYC.
