Description
Current Lot Rolling Stones "UK Tour 1971" Poster Artwork In addition to creating the Rolling Stones' world-famous Tongue logo, graphic designer John Pasche also produced several of the band's promotional posters during the early 1970s. Presented here is Pasche's large original artwork for the Stones' "UK Tour 1971" poster, along with the artist's personal original copy of the printed poster.Airbrushed with high-quality, color-fast inks onto a smooth matte-board, the 20" x 30" artwork features a sleek, Art Deco-style touring sedan speeding away from a black horizon, puffing up a cloud of dust and passing musical-note-studded stage curtains en route. Close examination illuminates a quite spectacular level of artistic detail. The sedan's geometric shapes, angles and curves, for example, and its deft use of white space. Also the flat landscape's gradient green, the roadway's marble-like finish, and the dust cloud's opacity. The textual elements of the design were added in the printing process, as seen on the accompanying published poster, where a heading appears in white, the venue names line the bottom half of the right side, and Pasche's signature resides in the lower-left corner. Both the artwork and poster (which, it should be noted, is highly collectible in its own right) demonstrate apparent Near Mint condition, and they are handsomely framed in an identical style to dimensions of 25" x 35", rendering them ideal companion pieces for display. With regard to the Stones' "UK Tour 1971"-which took the band through Newcastle, Manchester, Glasgow, Bristol, Brighton, Liverpool, Leeds and London-this was their first officially organized series of U.K. concerts since 1966. Dubbed the "Good-bye Britain Tour," it directly preceded their two years of self-imposed exile in France while they sorted out their tax problems.
